Handyman Insurance, Redesign Lightens Spirit at Raleigh-Durham International Airport
The Alston & Bird renovation project outfitted the interior of 16 floors—and 365,419 sq ft—in a Midtown Atlanta building. Renovation work involved interior demolition, structural supports for connecting stairs and interior fit-out and finishes. With intense planning, the project team condensed the schedule into 16 months and two phases from 22 months and three phases. So as not to disrupt tenants, the team developed a demolition plan that used two shifts, with most work done at night. The project—built to LEED-Gold standards—includes one of the largest LED lighting installations in a commercial office and a three-hour-rated fire curtain that lowers automatically. More than 95% of construction waste was recycled, and nearly 50% of wood product was sourced from certified sustainable forests.
