Handyman Insurance, The Stonlea Legacy Talking With Hugh Hardy
In 1891, Boston architect Peabody & Stearns completed the summer residence Stonlea in Dublin, New Hampshire, for tobacco producer Daniel Catlin. At its inception, Stonlea exemplified the hybrid Colonial-Shaker style of the era. By the time 82-year-old Polly Guth purchased the 12,000-square-foot building in 2009, it was a case study in unsustainable living. Because it was neither sized nor constructed for affordable year-round operation, “The previous owner could only live in part of the house during the winter. He had created this partition to separate the cold from warm parts.”
